Finding the Original Oregon Trail

The original Oregon Trail included a route to the Whitman Mission near present Walla Walla, WA. The congressionally designated Oregon National Historic Trail does not include this route. It extends due west from Pendleton, OR toward Echo and ultimately The Dalles, OR. While the route to the mission has been known in a general sense, details have been lacking. A twenty-five year effort by a team of three interested amateur historians has now identified key segments of the route. The reasons for this oversight and the results are the subject of this presentation.
