SafetyCare for Families is a training program for family members who support children, adolescents, or adults who may exhibit challenging or dangerous behavior.

SafetyCare for Families is a training program for family members who support children, adolescents, or adults who may exhibit challenging or dangerous behavior. This innovative course is designed to provide parents, family members, and others with the skills and interventions needed to improve behavior and to prevent, minimize, and manage potentially dangerous incidents.

The focus in SafetyCare is on prevention, safety, and humane, supportive, evidence-based interventions. Participants will ONLY learn preventative measures to avoid crisis or manage crisis behaviors safely until emergency responders can arrive. The training will consist of two sessions spread across five hours, with a lunch break in between.

Overall Goals of Safety Management within Family Care

  • Communicate respect and promote dignity
  • Reverse the momentary escalation and intensity of crisis behaviors
  • Teach and strengthen behaviors that are incompatible with crisis behaviors
  • Safety and therapeutically manage crises without injury and trauma
  • Terminate crises as quickly as possible
  • Reduce the future likelihood of behavior crises
  • Restraint PREVENTION and ELIMINATION
